In his photography, Peter Holst creates intense and dramatic narratives that represent life’s daily battles. With a playful fascination for visual drama he transforms ordinary human circumstances into epic proportions. Although Peter has a background in environmental and portrait work, he has recently introduced a more conceptual approach, merging traditional photography techniques with photo illustration and CGI. Peter lives and works in Vancouver, BC. See his collection here.
This week we launched Roam Mobility across Canada. The PR strategy was activated by our friends at SIP Publicity, and lots of social media support by our other friends at Social Victory. Media response was strong and consumers are showing relief that they have an alternative to the hideous cost of roaming from the big three. I’ll be spending most of my time at Roam for the foreseeable future, helping them grow the team and manage campaigns. Stay tuned for a spring campaign! You can see the site at www.roammobility.com
We unveiled the new Roam Mobility Identity last week and are working hard on applying it to a new website, packaging and a launch campaign for mid January. This product is really going to shake things up for Canadian mobility providers because they are slashing US roaming rates by 99%. A press release goes out Dec 15th announcing the deal…but you heard it here first. Check them out at the interim site: www.roammobility.com.
After a warm reception at Interesting Vancouver, and an invitation to speak to Saatchi and Saatchi in London, plus some interest from TEDx, I’ve decided to release memoirs from the my experiences over the last year. You can see some twitter chatter from the event here. In addition, Lowe’s Madrid office are working with me on a concept for a paperback version of the events (its early days yet so fingers crossed). All very exciting stuff! I’m humbled by the support from people. Amazing.
FRANK is teaming up with Industrial Brand to deliver on the Roam Mobility project. This partnership may result in some verbal uppercuts, chest beating, fist fighting, and the occasional groinal kick… but sometimes it just makes sense to dance with a peer to bring the best work to fruition. Ben and Mark at Industrial Brand have done some great work and we’re looking forward to rubbing up against their mastery of the visual world. You can check out their site here.
‘Interesting Vancouver’ will be on Friday October 14th at the museum of Vancouver and doors will open at 6pm. Interesting Vancouver is a multi-disciplinary conference with no theme, the only prerequisite is that the speaker is interesting! Tickets go on sale soon here. It’s also sponsored by Driftwood beer, so if things get un-interesting you can get smashed on first rate beer instead.
FRANK is happy to be getting together with Roam Mobility on a re-brand project. Roam offers affordable international telephone roaming that’s a fraction of the rate of the major carriers (so you no longer have to get screwed by your phone company when traveling!) They’re already experiencing great success with their existing product range and have some great new products about to hit the street, and of course they want a sparkling new brand (and brand identity) to take them to the next level. Check out their site here but don’t get used to it as that too will be changing.
Parvia is a revolutionary product aimed at hobbyists who like constructive pastimes. Parvia and FRANK collaborated on a marketing strategy project to define the positioning for the product, then moved on to create a suite of collateral.
Philip started life in the film industry and seeks to demonstrate the dynamic narrative so often mastered in film, with photography. His images are very powerful. Philip works in commercial and fine art, you can see some of his work here.
FRANK partnered with Virgin Mobile Canada and BioLytical to create a national campaign for AIDS awareness and the 60 second HIV test kit. The campaign culminated with a star studded event in which BioLytical was hosted by Richard Branson in person. The campaign was a raging success and the product became available across Canada, achieving international recognition through the Virgin outreach programs to Africa. See more pictures here.
Take a look at the digital advertising FRANK put together for Coastal Contacts in 2010. Coastal Contacts are an international brand with online stores in Canada, US, Australia, and New Zealand. FRANK developed the advertising platform for the brand; designing and building a series of Flash interactive ads and landing pages. FRANK also re-branded ‘Lensway’, one of Coastal Contacts urban/youth focused sub brands. You can check it out here.
Check out Lindsay’s work, its awesome. Lindsay’s photographs feature a series of ongoing personal dramas, located in seemingly private, intimate spaces. With ambiguous narrative, these staged, constructed scenes explore the concept of desperate loneliness, solitude and illustrate the unsettling reality of many people’s sheltered, simple lives. Illustrated in a dark, quirky and guiltily humorous way, Lindsay shows that not all characters are heroes, but searches to highlight the subject’s inner strength through their most vulnerable moments. See it here
Welcome to the new website for FRANK Advertising. Over the last few years FRANK has worked with international award winning talent for some great Canadian brands. It’s been wonderful watching the Agency prove itself and earn the respect of peers, and it’s a privilege working with such brilliant people every day.
Boutique agencies are flourishing globally because they’re nimble, provide smart thinking, and can execute quickly…all at a decent price. The era of the boutique ad-shop is here and I’m proud that FRANK continues to be a pioneer in the space. We’re continually developing our capability, our character, and our creative.
We’re very proud of the work we’re doing at FRANK and would like to thank our partners and clients for helping us on our journey. Please look around our new site and feel free to let us know what you think.

My favorite section of the FRANK website is going to be the Gallery, in which we’ll be featuring commercial and fine artists work. First up is Anthony Redpath. Anthony is Vancouver based and is well known among the Ad Agencies for his great commercial photography. Anthony showcases his work nationally and we’re glad to have him as a friend. If you want to see more of his work drop us a line and we’ll connect you. Or if you have work you’d like to feature in the Gallery, don’t be shy…
